Matthew Hotchkis   B.App.Sci (Pod)

Matthew is the Director and Senior Podiatrist of Podiatry Professionals. Matthew started Podiatry Professionals in order to provide the people of Canberra with a top level Podiatry clinic located directly in the city.

Matthew graduated from the University of Western Sydney in 2004 and having grown up in Canberra he decided to return to pursue a career in Podiatry. Initially he worked in both the private and public sector. Matthew worked for A.C.T Health at the Canberra Hospital and various surrounding clinics and undertook numerous Podiatry policy projects with A.C.T Health. In conjunction with this Matthew worked in a Sports focused private practice, consistently treating elite athletes and their injuries.

It was during that year that Matthew took some time off to travel and play hockey on a semi-professional basis in Belgium. This also allowed him to observe Podiatry in a European setting.

Matthew returned to Australia and continued working in private practice and was appointed to the A.C.T Podiatrists Board which he continued serving until the recent National Registration was introduced. In March 2008 Matthew was appointed as the Podiatrist for the Australian Defence Force which he is still involved with to date. Within this role Matthew has enjoyed the intense biomechanical and sports injury background which comes with it. It is in this role that he has observed and treated many out of the ordinary injuries.

Matthew has a keen interest in Sports Podiatry and biomechanics. He has enjoyed treating many elite athletes ranging from the Australian Kookaburras, Australian Boomerangs, Canberra Raiders, A.C.T Brumbies, Canberra Lakers and Strikers, Canberra Darters and A.C.T Academy of Sport.

Outside of Podiatry Matthew enjoys all sports but has a passion for hockey. Matthew has competed at an elite level for the last 11 years representing the Canberra Lakers for ten years and having been a member of the Australian Indoor Hockey team for the last seven years. He recently returned from his second Indoor Hockey World Cup having captained the Australian team.

Matthew initially took an interest in Podiatry due to this sports background but very much enjoys watching his patient’s lifestyle improve after successful treatment.
