Matthew Hotchkis – B.App.Sci (Pod) | Director

Matthew is the Director and Senior Podiatrist of Podiatry Professionals. He graduated from the University of Western Sydney in 2004 and having grown up in Canberra he decided to return to make a contribute to the Canberra podiatry community. Matthew initially worked for both A.C.T Health at the Canberra Hospital and various surrounding clinics and undertook numerous podiatry policy projects with A.C.T Health. In conjunction with this Matthew worked in a sports focused private practice, consistently treating elite athletes and their injuries.

It was during that year that Matthew took some time off to travel and play hockey on a semi-professional basis in Belgium which also allowed him to observe podiatry in a European setting.

Matthew returned to Australia and worked in a dual role both in private practice and at the Australian Defence Force which he is still involved in to date. It is during that time where Matthew developed his knowledge and passion for sports podiatry and orthotic therapy and enjoyed the intense biomechanical and sports injury patient load as he has observed and treated many out of the ordinary injuries. Matthew also combined this with a role with the A.C.T Podiatrists Board which he continued serving until the National Registration was introduced.

It was at this time that Podiatry Professionals was born! Matthew started Podiatry Professionals to provide the people of Canberra with a top-level podiatry clinic located directly in the city and to make a positive difference to people’s lifestyles. Matthew continues to develop the practice to serve the Canberra community and since its inception the practice has now expanded to over four locations to date.

Matthew revels in his role as the podiatrist of the A.C.T Brumbies and the responsibilities that come with it. He regularly spends time assessing and treating the players to ensure they are in the best shape they can be. He also enjoys his involvement with the Australian Kookaburras, Australian Boomerangs, Canberra Raiders, Canberra Lakers and Strikers, Canberra Darters and the A.C.T Academy of Sport.

Outside of Podiatry Matthew enjoys all sports but has a passion for hockey. Matthew had enjoyed competing at an elite level representing the Canberra Lakers and the Australian Indoor Hockey team but now he belongs more in the ‘veterans league’.

Matthew’s main passion, however, is his family and team at Podiatry Professionals. Now a father of two young children he loves spending time with them balanced with his role in mentoring and developing fellow podiatrists at the practice and regularly training university students on placements. Matthew’s goal is to extend podiatry services to everyone in Canberra and his podiatry mentoring role allows the clinic as a whole to treat many more patients with high quality treatment and ultimately reduce their pain and improve their lifestyle!
